Annadil Burhani is one of the affiliated institutions of Anjuman e Saifee Jamaat Dar es Salaam and every year during Aqa Maula’s (TUS) Milad celebrations, organises sports tournaments in all the games played at the club.
Mumineen of Dar es Salaam are fortunate to have such a sports complex in the heart of the city offering excellent facilities for outdoor and indoor games. Traditionally cricket had been the darling sport at the club, getting the lion’s share at the expense of other games in terms of funding and facilities. However the current management team led by Shk. Taherbhai Jafferjee should be credited for reviving the flagging fortunes of the club. The innauguration of the new indoor sports complex and the general refurbishing of the club premises last year has given our youngsters excellent facilities for both outdoor and indoor sports. The increased numbers of sportsmen, sportswomen and general public using the club’s facilities is a testimony to the club management’s efforts.
The indoor games complex has become a popular venue at the club with facilities for badminton, darts, squash and table tennis. This year indoor football, T8 (overs) limited overs indoor cricket has been drawing large crowds. The 101st Milad Mubarak tournaments were held in scrabble, snooker and volleyball in addition to the afore mentioned games.
Friday 2nd March 2012 was the concluding day of the 101st Milad Mubarak Sports Bonanza when most games (men) held their finals. The ladies had concluded their events (five) earlier. A large crowd including Janab Aamilsaheb Shk. Tayabali Shk. Hamzabhai Patanwalla had turned out to cheer the finalists at the Indoor Sports complex which was the venue for most of the finals.
At 7.30 to set the ball rolling were the finals of indoor football, a game that together with indoor T8 cricket has taken Annadil Burhani by storm and caught the public’s imagination. The first football final (juniors) pitted Ivory Coast vs Zambia which the former won 3-2 on postmatch penalties. (It is a coincidence that these two teams actually played in the finals of the recent African Nations Cup tournament.)
The second pulsating final (seniors) was between Holland (Dar es Salaam boys) and Nigeria (Tanga boys) won by the latter 3-1. Due to the large numbers of spectators, others had to follow the games outside live on a large screen! Next were the table tennis and badminton finals for both juniors and seniors. Elsewhere finalists in snooker and squash were competing for honours. The last final was in Volleyball lasting well into the night.
Finals of darts and T8 indoor cricket could not be held, in the case of the latter, due to the large number of entrants, the tournament was still in the preliminary stages and is expected to hold its final in a fortnight’s time.
May Allah grant Aqa Maula (TUS) sehat kulli malabis fakhera until yawme Qayamat. Ameen. May Allah grant Syedi wa Maulaya Aaliqadar (TUS) umr daraaz in Aqa Maula’s Abawi saya – Ameen.
